Private Client - Associate/Partner
JOB PURPOSE
To lead the private client department and establish it as a successful function within the firm with a reputation to match the commercial teams in client base, quality and profitability.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.To manage and develop a skilled team to deliver the various objectives and requirements set out below.
2.To deliver practical services of outstanding quality that are focused on clients' needs.
3.To advise and represent clients on a range of private client matters, including wills, probate, trusts, private tax matters and contentious wills/probate/trusts issues.
4.To develop the inheritance tax planning area of the practice for high net worth individuals.
5.To work with the firm's commercial partners in order to identify private client opportunities with the directors and shareholders of the firm's client companies.
6.To network with contacts in professional firms that the senior members of the firm's commercial clients use in the UK and overseas (e.g. investment banks, brokers, accountants) so that referrals can be made to and recommendations can be received from these sources.
7.Agree fee income targets with the Office Head and to achieve budget figures and cost management.
8.Ensure that bills are presented to clients on a regular basis as agreed, and are recovered in a timely fashion.
9.Effectively handle own case load and delegate authority to other 'expert' fee-earners as appropriate, including generating and directing referrals to other teams within the firm.
10.Create and implement an annual marketing plan to promote services to existing and potential clients creating a 'quality and client focused' image whilst maximising fee-earning capacity.
11.To develop the skills and qualities of subordinates.
12.To keep up with relevant changes in the law and ensure that these are communicated to others within the department.
13.To undertake any other reasonable duties as required.
Skills / Experience
Experience and ability to manage others.
Credibility to meet high net worth contacts and to win high net worth clients.
Detailed knowledge of tax planning appropriate to high net worth individuals and their family interests.
Articulate.
Desire to achieve and proactive in developing the private client area of the practice.
Qualifications / Education
Qualified solicitor with at least 6 years' experience in private client matters, tax and trusts.
