The Interview Guide
Do not leave it to the last minute – it is far better to be an hour early than 2 minutes late! Prepare your journey in advance, use www.google.co.uk to plan how to get to your desination. Make the journey once before, and time yourself. Add on at least an extra 20 minutes to make time for any traffic etc.

Check the quickest and most convenient journey and establish train times etc. on www.railtrack.co.uk or call 08457 484850.

If you cannot make the time of the meeting, even at the last minute – you must let the Agency and/or the company know you have a problem. Your good reputation will be damaged beyond repair if you fail to turn up without notifying anyone.

Company
Research the company. Be aware of what the company does, its products and its services. Look for information about the company on their website – note any awards etc that you can use to praise them with at interview. What type of people do they employ? Find out the company culture.

Vacancy
Have you received all the information you need from us in regards to the vacancy? If you are in doubt, ASK! We will be happy to help you. It is vital that you are well prepared for your interview.

Are there going to be any tests or assessments? Find out in advance so as you can be prepared!

Arrival
Arrive early but be punctual. Try to arrive 5–10 minutes before the interview, this will give you time to compose yourself. Use this time to adjust to your surroundings and get a ‘feel’ for the company and the types of people it employs.

Always be friendly and polite to the receptionist or secretary who greets you. It will get you off to a good start and the interviewer will probably ask later for his/her opinion of you.

First Impressions

Good eye contact
Smile
Firm handshake
Show good manners – do not sit until you are offered a chair etc.

During the Interview
Show an interest in what the interviewer is saying at all times.
